news alert (excerpt)

London, UK - 24 January 2003, 14:00 GMT - A shared agenda between ideologically motivated digital attacks and physical terrorism is clearly beginning to emerge following the arrest two days ago of a five-member militant fundamentalist cell of Moroccan origin operating in Italy, which was planning to attack NATO sites and churches and also possessed a map of London.

The mi2g alert published on 9th January notes a record-breaking surge of digital attack activity on targets in Italy, UK and USA. The highest share of ideologically motivated digital attacks, which targeted Italy over the last year, originated from Morocco.
